Obituary of Cynthia Bankston Holmes
(December 22, 1957 ~ April 29, 2014)

Sister Cynthia Bankston Holmes was born to the late Mr. & Mrs. Isaac and Selma Watkins, Jr. on December 22, 1957 in Gulfport, Mississippi.

After graduating from Long Beach High School, she attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College where she received her Nursing Degree. She was employed with the VA Hospital in Biloxi, MS and retired after many years of faithful service.

Sister Cynthia accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. Joseph Simpson at St. James Baptist Church, Gulfport, MS, where she served faithfully in numerous capacities: Pastoral Support Ministry, Choir, Youth Matron, Nurses Guild and Leader of the Kitchen Ministry. She worked diligently with the St. James Disaster Relief during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and she prepared meals for the hungry and the volunteers. She was also affiliated with the Shiloh District State Convention and National Baptist Convention of America, Inc., where she served as a judge of Bible Activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Selma Watkins, Jr. and a brother, Samuel Arrington.

She leaves to cherish her memories four children, Kimberly (Willie) Westmoreland, Selma (Antonio) Johnson of Gulfport, MS, Betty (Lemarcus) Grier of Birmingham, AL and Gurel Bankston, Jr. of Gulfport, MS; seven brothers, Jerry Hosey, El Paso, TX, Benjamin Hosey, David Hosey, Johnny Watkins of Gulfport, MS, Roy Taylor, Hidleburg, MS, Isaac Watkins, III and Spencer Watkins of Gulfport, MS; five sisters, Betty Hosey, Bobbie Hosey, Frances Mayes of Gulfport, MS, Lisa Larry of Atlanta, GA, Linda Savage of Long Beach, MS; eight grandchildren, Julius, Brittnee, Alyria, J'saylen, Ariel, N'Dyah, Jolanta,and Mikeylah; a great grandchild, Julius, Jr.; a godchild, Caedan Key; an uncle, Sam Watkins, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
