William Chandler was born in 1812 in Saint James's District, Person County, North Carolina, a son of Anderson Chandler and Marcia Anderson.

He married
(1) Sarah Webster Boaz on 22 April 1830 in Fayette County, Illinois and
(2) Lutina "Lutincy" Clark (widow of William M. Farris of Wayne County, Illinois) in Wayne County, Illinois in 1858.

Farmer.

He carried out the grading, excavating, filling and ditching on sections 151 and 152 of the Illinois Central Railroad near his farm in the summer and autumn of 1854, constructing 6830 cubic yards of embankment, for which he received an additional 40 acres of land in Ramsey Township as a railroad grant on 30 November 1854.

He removed to Wayne County, Illinois in 1857.

He died in Brush Creek Township (present-day Orchard Township), Wayne County, Illinois in 1862.
