Obituary for Jack LeRoy Eaton
Jack LeRoy Eaton, 73, of rural Robinson, IL died at 1:18 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013 in the comfort of his home. He was born February 24, 1940 in Mattoon, IL, the son of Jesse Eaton & Ada Louise Newlin. Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Enlisting in 1958, he went to Fort Leonard Wood for basic training. In the course of his military career, he found himself stationed in Korea, Germany, and Belgium. He retired from the Army as a Sergeant 1st Class in 1981, from Fort Leonard Wood, where his military career began. In the years that followed, he invested himself in the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, where he was a Commander and Life Member. He is remembered for being Commander of the Honor Guard for several years, where he earned the nickname “Sarge” from his fellow veterans. At home, he enjoyed taking his dog Molly on walks through the woods and laying on his hammock on summer days.On December 7, 1961, he married Sharlyn Kay Harris, and she survives. He is also survived by his four children & their spouses, Jefferson LeRoy & Missy Eaton (Denver, CO), Jesse Wayne Eaton & girlfriend, Alice Marie Lockhart (Robinson), Tamatha Bridgette Baxter (WA), and Tonya Kay & Kenneth Smith (Zebulon, NC); four granddaughters; three sisters, Madonna Christine (Palestine, IL), Vicki Sue Eaton (Robinson), Sandra Kay Goff (Flat Rock, IL); as well as several nieces & nephews.Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Palestine Cemetery, Palestine, IL. Military services will be conducted by the combined units of the Palestine AmVets Post # 33, Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549, Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post # 132.Memorials may be made to the V.F.W. Transportation Fund, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
