Mary was preceded in death by her husband Barney Lee Abbott. Mary Evelyn and Barney moved to Houston in 1945, where he was Chief Estimating Engineer with Farnsworth Chambers Construction Co. On August 23, 1935, Mary Evelyn graduated from The University of Georgia with a BS in Education degree, finishing college in three years. After moving to Houston she taught Third & Fourth Graders for 30 years at Fannin Elementary and later at Briargrove Elementary School. Recently she was proud to celebrate her 50+ years of membership at South Main Baptist Church as a member of The Bethell Class. She was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend. Mary Evelyn is survived by daughters, Betty Walker and husband Bill Walker, Anne Easter and husband Ronnie Easter; grandchildren Shelley Walker Caldwell and husband Del, Lee Walker and wife Sandra, Kerrie Easter Preston and husband Bob, and Kim Easter Noland and husband Tee.
