July 24, 1893 newspaper article in Canada:
Death of an early resident of Guelph.---Mr. Patrick Blanchfield, brother of Mr. Thomas Blanchfield, died at Mr. Blanchfield's residence, Elora road, at one o'clock yesterday afternoon. The deceased was well-known in Guelph some 45 years ago, being one of the most popular stage drivers on the road between Owen Sound and Niagara Falls, and will be remembered by the older settlers along that route. Some 35 years ago he left Guelph, and took up a farm in Mantua, Ohio, where he has resided ever since. Suffering from dropsy and liver complaint, he was advised by his physicians to take a change of air, and decided to pay a visit to his brother, Thomas here. He arrived on Tuesday evening, tired out with the long journey. He was met at the station by his brother and taken to his home. Having a rest of two days he seemed to be improving, but after that he grew worse, and in fact was never able to be outside the door. He had every medical care and attention during his illness here. He leaves a family of four daughters - Mrs. Hine, Mantua; three at home, and two sons, Walter and Thomas, also of Mantua; his brothers John, James and Thomas, Guelph; Richard in Michigan; and a sister Mrs. Quinlan in New York.
A son and daughter of the deceased arrived at noon today and took charge of the remains, which were taken home by the 4:20 p.m. train this afternoon. The pall bearers were: James Mays Sr., M.J. Doran, F.B. Skinner, Hugh Bronton, James Blanchfield, and John Blanchfield.
