The funeral services for Whit Brown were held Sunday afternoon at Calvary Baptist Church in Marvel with Rev J. D. Self officiating, assisted by Rev. Cecil Hughes.

Mr. Brown, who was 79, died Friday morning at the Veterans Hospital in Memphis after a lengthy illness. He was born near Turner and had spent his entire life in this area. He was a retired farmer, a veteran of World War I and was a charter member of the Robert F. Darr Post 88 of the American Legion at Marvel.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Hartsfield Brown of Marvell; three sons, James Brown of Brinkley, Julian (Joe) Brown of Holly Grove and Wayne Brown of Memphis; four daughters, Mrs. Helen Vining of Helena, Mrs. Mary Hartsell of Brinkley, Mrs. Barbara Bryant of Memphis and Mrs. Sue Self of Pocohantas; one sister, Mrs. Kate Fielder of Postelle and 17 grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Herd Stone, Wiley Crisp, Wayne Carter, Bert Smalley, Jim Shell, Simon Shell, June Gschwend, Elden Myer and David Inebnit.

Active pallbearers were Dan Crisp, Floyd Crisp, I.K. Brown, Jerald Catlett, Johnny Wiles and Billy Moore.
Burial was in the Turner Cemetery with Brickell Funeral Home of Marvell in charge of arrangement.
