Musician. He was a member of the 1960s family pop group "The Cowsills", which was formed initially with four Cowsill brothers, then eventually included another brother and sister, and their mother. The recorded four albums between 1967 and 1971, and had hit songs such as "The Rain, The Park and Other Things" and "Hair." Barry Cowsill originally played drums in the band, but has switched to the bass guitar when his brother John Cowsill joined the band. The Cowsills disbanded in 1972, but has a number of post-break up revivals and reunions that Barry Cowsill participated in. He was living in New Orleans, Louisiana when it was hit by Hurricane Katrina, a category-five storm, and chose not to evacuate. Although he appeared to have initially survived the storm, and had left messages for his sister Susan Cowsill, he disappeared. His body was found on December 28, 2005, and was positively identified on January 3, 2006, from dental records. It was determined he had drowned in the flooding from the storm.
