The daughter of Gradus A. & Nettie (Herwehe) Vriezelaar, Jean was born on August 30, 1922 in Monroe, Iowa. Jean graduated from Monroe High School in 1941, and attended 4C’s Secretarial School in Des Moines. In 1947, Jean was united in marriage to M. Duane Reeve at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was killed in a plane accident in 1950. In September of 1953 she married Max D. Tool. They were together until his death in 1974. She worked as a bank teller at the Monroe State Bank for 40 years. Jean was an active member of the Monroe Presbyterian Church. She served on the Ruth Circle and taught Sunday school for many years. Jean was also a member of the Monroe Mother’s Club and enjoyed having coffee with the ladies in her club. In her later years she volunteered at RSVP in Newton.


Jean will be greatly missed by her daughter, Deborah Reeve Bennett and her husband Orrin of Prairie City; grandchildren, Justin Bennett of Des Moines and Melissa Bennett and her husband Dean Johnson of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Also surviving is a sister, Kathryn Vriezelaar of Newton, a brother, Blaine Vriezelaar and his wife Kay and a sister in law, Margie Dawson of Newton. Jean also enjoyed her many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husbands, a sister, Korinne Brannon and a brother, James Vriezelaar.
