NEWTON KEENER, of Blairsville, was killed at Paulton, on the West Penn R.R., on Friday night last. He was a frieght brakeman and was thrown off his train at that point and instantly killed. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his sudden death. Deceased was a brother of Prof. Keener who was killed in the Blairsville yards in 1884.

Newt Keener Ground to Death Under the Cars at Apollo Junction

Newton Keener, a brakeman on the West Penn railroad, met with a terrible accident which cost him his life Friday night. The train on which he was braking was bound for Allegheny City. When arriving at Apollo Junction they were side tracked until another train passed. It was at this point that he met his death. They were leaving the siding and the last the crew saw of the unfortunate man alive was when he was four or five cars ahead of the caboose. How he came to fall from his train no one knows. As soon as he was missed the crew began searching and found him lying near where last seen on deck with his right arm and leg cut off. He was otherwise badly used up. The remains were gathered up and brought here on Saturday morning and taken to George W. Davis' undertaking rooms, where they were prepared for burial, and were then removed to his home in North Blairsville. He leaves a wife and three children. The funeral took place on January 1, at 2 p.m.

N. Keener Meets a Horrible Death by Falling Off a Car.

From our Blairsville Correspondent.

Last Saturday morning N. Keener, a brakeman on the West Penn Railroad, fell from his train on the Apollo siding and was crushed to death under the wheels. His body was terribly mutilated, both feet and one hand were entirely severed and his head was mangled. His remains were brought to his home in this place Saturday forenoon, where they were prepared for burial at the undertaking establishment of Geo. W. Davis. The remains were buried in the Blairsville cemetery on Monday afternoon. The deceased leaves a wife and three children, who are in comfortable circumstances. Nesbitt, a brother of Newton Keener, the deceased, was killed in the railroad yard here about ten years ago.

Killed While Working for Another Man.

The funeral [of] Newton Keener, of Blairsville, who was killed at Paulton Station on the West Penn Branch at 4 o'clock on Saturday morning, took place from his late residence at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, interment being made at Blairsville.

The unfortunate man had been working all day Friday, and working an extra turn for a fellow-railroader when he met his death. John, the eldest member of his family, as a Pennsylvania Railroad Company's operator at Blairsville, and the ages of his children are 14 and 10 years respectively.
