Stephen Allen Billings (affectionately known as "Snake"), 67, of Statesville, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014 due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was born in Iredell County on September 7, 1946 to the late Lester Samuel and Lona Hayes Billings.
Mr. Billings was a graduate of Statesville Senior High and served his country honorably in the Army. On December 1, 1967, he married Ruby Lorene Lackey, who preceded him in death on March 10, 2014. They enjoyed over 46 years of marriage before her passing. He was employed by J. C. Penney Warehouse as a maintenance worker and would have celebrated his 49th year of employment next month. He loved to hunt, fish, and ride his motorcycle. He was a loving father, grandfather, and friend who will be missed by all.
Along with his wife, Lorene and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Novella Miller.
Mr. Billings is survived by one daughter, Lorey Steelman (Lee); and one son, Stephen Allen Billings, Jr. along with four granddaughters, Carlee, Hailey, Stephanie Steelman, and Liliana Billings, all of Statesville. He is also survived by a brother, Walt Billings (Betty) and a sister, Ruth Drum (Jerry), both of Statesville.
There will be no formal services but a visitation will be held at Nicholson Funeral Home Thursday evening, May 1, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
