Mrs. Kathryn LaVerne Turner, age 85, of Rome, GA, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013.

Mrs. Turner was born in Taylorsville, GA on February 13, 1928 daughter of the late Samuel Garrison and Luna Rutledge Garrison. LaVerne was the oldest daughter of her family of six siblings. She was a graduate of Taylorsville High School and attended West Georgia College earning a BS in Education and her master's degree. While a student at the University of GA, LaVerne met her husband of 59 years, James Pierce Turner, Sr. They were married on August 28, 1953 in Taylorsville, GA. She was preceded in death by her brothers Charles Garrison and Hugh Garrison and a sister Jerri Flournoy.

Throughout her life LaVerne was a strong, caring mother, wife, sister and friend. She touched many lives through her teaching career in Atlanta, Taylorsville, Rome and Canton. LaVerne was a beautiful woman who loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband James Pierce Turner Sr.; her daughters, Debbie White of Douglasville, GA, Teri Burdette and her husband John of Powder Springs, GA; a son, James Turner, Jr., and his wife Elaine of Rome, GA. Also surviving are her loving grandchildren: Jeff and Laura Burdette of Powder Springs, Seth White and his fiancée Marci Litwa of Atlanta and Melissa White, Lindsey Corpening and her husband Reggie and Rebecca Turner, all of Rome, GA.; sisters Martha Gilstrap of Cartersville and Hazel Daws of Douglasville, GA. A host of nieces and nephews survive.

The family received friends at Daniel's Funeral Home on Monday, April 22, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm., and from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour on Tuesday April 23, 2013.

A celebration of Mrs. Turner's life were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013 in the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel's Funeral Home with the Dr. Leroy Cooper officiating. Interment followed in the Floyd Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers were Tommy Daws, Glenn Campbell, Chuck Garrison, Rich Flournoy, Seth White and Jeff Burdette. Honorary pallbearers will be the remaining nieces and nephews.

Flowers were accepted or donations may be made in her memory to Heyman HospiceCare, P. O. Box 163, Rome, GA 30162-0163.
