Norma Kay Yarborough, died on Wednesday morning, June 28, 1961, when the automobile she was driving collided with a military wrecker on Fort Bragg during a rainstorm. Her wedding to Lieut. Louis John Schroeder of Toledo, Ohio was planned for Saturday, July 1 in the Fort Bragg Chapel. She died instantly and her maid of honor, Mary McCain, age 17 years of Tacoma, Washington suffered head injuries. Norma was the daughter of Colonel W.P. Yarborough, Special Warfare Center Commander. Preliminary investigation by military police found no evidence of speeding and no charges were preferred. She was survived by her parents; one brother, William Lee Yarborough; one sister, Patricia Mae Yarborough and her grandfather, Colonel Leroy W. Yarborough, United States Army, retired of Mechanicsville, Pennsylvania.
