Loren E. Dahl, 69, Fountain, a lifelong Canton-Fountain area resident, died after a lengthy illness Saturday, March 14 at Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis, where he had been a patient the past month.

Born Sept. 10, 1922, in rural Canton, he had been a milk hauler and salvage hauler in the Canton area. He later worked for Kapper Construction Co. of Spring Valley and was a self-employed sheep shearer. On March 15, 1945, he married Elaine Hayes in Killeen, Texas. They moved to Fountain from Canton in 1951. His wife died Oct. 14, 1989. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Fountain American Legion.

Survivors include two sons, Duane of Preston and Gary of Rochester; two daughters, Diane Speer of Dover and Denise Deike of Mankato; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rose Brunkow of Nelson, Wis. Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian burial was offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Lawrence O'Toole Catholic Church in Fountain, with the Rev. Francis Galles officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Canton with military graveside services by the Lanesboro American Legion.

The Drury-Riley Funeral Home, Fountain, was in charge of arrangements.
