OTTUMWA — Shirley Ann Johnson, 77, of 118 S. Union, died at 3:05 p.m. June 10, 2013, at Hospice House in Ottumwa. She was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Ottumwa to Herbert and Cecil LaRue Morgan. She married Benjamin Charles Johnson on Oct. 10, 1953. Shirley had worked at Jefferson Square Manor, Ottumwa Manor and at Standard Kollsman. She had worked at St. Joseph Hospital for three years, and then worked for 23 years at Ottumwa Regional Health Center, retiring in 1998. Shirley was a member of Izaak Walton League and had been a Hospice volunteer. Surviving is her husband, Ben; her children, David (Rhonda) Johnson of Ottumwa, Dennie (Wanda) Johnson of Oskaloosa, Herbie (Sharon) Johnson of Port Washington, Wis., Kim (Rosemary) Johnson of Ottumwa and Patti (Richard) Griffiths Jr. of Pella; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Carter of Ottumwa and Nancy (Gene) Tuck of LaGrande, Ore.; a brother, Dave (Vicki) Morgan of Cincinnati, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marian Schauer and a brother, Herb Morgan. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Dr. Bruce Lindberg officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. today with the family present from 6-8 p.m. this evening. Memorials may be made to Hospice serving Wapello and Davis Counties, 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, Iowa 52501 or Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
