He was born March 15, 1858, in Green Co., Tenn., being 72 years, 6 months and 17 days of age at the time of his decease.
He came to Missouri at the age of 14 years, and since that time had always resided in this County.
He was married at the age of 22, to Sarah Wagoner, and to this union 7 children were born, 5 of them living, all being present at the funeral. He also leaves 21 grandchildren to mourn his departure.
Mr. Bales was converted about 20 years ago, and united with the Roling Heath Baptist Church, and lived a consistent Christian life until the end of his earthly sojourn.
The children who survive are as follows: Frank Bales of near town, John Bales of Tribune, Grace Logan of St. Louis, Howard Bales of Hooker, and Homer Bales of St. Louis.
*Ephraim is the son of Owen & Elizabeth Piolet Bales. It is not known who made his tombstone and placed it in the cemetery. The family believes the stone is not on Ephraim's actual grave.
