Leroy A. Newton, 89, passed away the following day, Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in Kansas City, MO, in Kansas City, MO. He was born in Three Sands, OK to Jack and Gladys Newton. Eve and Roy met when he was stationed in Germany following WWII and were married on April 8, 1960 in Columbus, GA.Surviving are four loving children – Heidi Neece (Rick), Guenter (Mike) Newton (Susan), Dan Newton (Debbie) and Leroy Newton (Christine); four grandsons – Brent, Blaine, Collin and Garrett Newton. Eve has a brother Detlef Hache who survives. Roy had two brothers, Eugene and Kenneth, who preceded him in death.Eve and Roy were long time residents of Abilene where they raised their family while operating a Montgomery Ward franchise store and participating in many civic and business activities including the German America Club of Salina and the Retired Enlisted Association. Eve was also a member of the Abilene Newcomers Club. For many years, Eve also administered the foreign exchange program in Abilene and in central Kansas. Both Eve and Roy were true friends and mentors to many who knew and loved them. They will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Salina, KS. Martin – Becker - Carlson Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. There will be a private ceremony at 1:00 PM at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Fort Riley, Ogden KS.Memorials in their memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer's Association, Sunflower Daycare or the Salina First United Methodist Church.
