Barbara G. Edmiston, 76, died on April 23, 2014 in the Holy Spirit Hospital. She was born on July 6, 1937 in Jamestown, New York to the late Leroy and Ruth Glad. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Guy S. Edmiston, with whom she shared ministry for their 53 years of marriage; a son, Dr. David N. Edmiston and his wife Kathy of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Laura Ryman and her husband Paul of Mt. Jackson, Virginia; six grandchildren, Dennis, Derrick, and Kristina Edmiston, and Hannah, Nicholas, and Sarah Ryman; and a great-grandson, J.J. Edmiston. She is also survived by a sister, Marilyn Van Auken (Bob) of Temecula, California, and a brother, Richard Glad (Jean) of Jamestown, New York and several nieces and nephews. Barbara graduated from Jamestown High School, Jamestown, NY, Buffalo State University, Buffalo, NY, and has earned a graduate degree from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Trained as a teacher of Special Education, she became active with the ARC of Dauphin County as a Board Member and then served as the Executive Director of the ARC of Dauphin County for 24 years, retiring in 1999. Barbara had a special gift for relating to children and families of persons with mental disabilities. Active in the community, she was a member of the Pinnacle Health Auxiliary volunteering at the Frederickson Outpatient Hospital. She had served on the Board of the Harrisburg State Hospital and had been active on committees of the Camp Hill Elementary PTA when her children were young. Her interests included book discussion groups, global travel, time in Topsail Island, North Carolina and the family cabin in Union County, Pennsylvania.
