John was born February 6, 1915, in Marion County, Iowa, the son of Henry and Maggie Vander Veer Visser. He attended the Harvey school, until he began work on the family farm at an early age. He worked in the coal mines, and later at Pella Corporation (Rolscreen) retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Harvey Assembly of God Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Florence Wilson Visser, and Myra Rankin Visser; a brother, Engle; a sister, Wilma Troeger; and a grandchild.
