Fred Love Mangum Sr., 72, of 121 Copperfield Place Court, Winston-Salem died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Mangum was born Oct. 12, 1932, in Anson County, a son of the late Walter Curtis Mangum and the late Lena Biggers. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a 1957 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Mangum was the retired president of Luwa Bahnson Inc., with nearly 20 years of service. He also was a member of Lions Club and Gideons. Mr. Mangum was a long-standing member of First Presbyterian Church, having served as both an elder and a deacon. He was preceded in death by two sons, Fred Mangum Jr. and Kenneth Mangum; and a brother, Walter Mangum. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Evelyn Allen Mangum, of the home; daughter Cynthia Mills and husband, Franklin, of Winston-Salem; brothers Jack Mangum of Indiana and Robert Mangum of Arizona; and three grandchildren, Forrest, Rachel and Tucker Mills. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Russell Ritchel Jr., Dr. Jeff White, the Rev. Donna McClellan and Mike Horne officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church Building Fund. Vogler & Sons is in charge of the arrangements.
