Cult leader and outlaw. Born Charles Bruce Longo in Yonkers, New York. He was excommunicated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church) in June 1969 due to irreconcilable differences with the church's leaders. As the Federal Bureau of Investigation were closing in on him for possible wire fraud and other violations of the law, he committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning in a van. Two days later, in what is considered as one of Utah's worst mass and family murders ever, his then newly-widowed wife and six of their seven children died in a murder-suicide pact to join him in the afterlife. A 15-year-old daughter was the lone survivor of the incident.
