Karen Marie Higgins, 65, of Las Vegas, passed away at her home, Nov. 1, 2006. A native and lifetime resident of Las Vegas, she was born May 7, 1941, in Las Vegas.

Gifted with an artistic flair, Karen created wonderful gifts for family and friends with needle and paintbrush. One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with family and friends and she will be missed at family holidays.

She used her home as a gracious and warm extension of herself, hosting family events and time with friends, always making people feel welcome and at ease. She loved to travel but always returned to the town she considered home. Karen was a casino cage cashier, first at the Tropicana and then more than 25 years at the MGM/Bally's Hotel.

She was preceded in death by her father, Zeron Bell; and grandmother, Esther Wolverton. Karen is survived by her children, Janet LaBonte and husband, Dave of Oregon, John Higgins and Judy Kehn; grandchildren, David LaBonte, Timothy, Thomas and Taylor Higgins; mother, Beatrice Thibeau; brother, Wynn Bell and partner, Bev; sisters, Daveen Montez and Sharlee Bolding; and stepmother, Colleen Bell, all of Las Vegas. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and a circle of caring friends.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at Christ the King Catholic Community, 4925 S. Torrey Pines, immediately followed by graveside service at Eden Vale Memorial Park, 1216 N. Las Vegas Blvd.
