ROYER ANCESTRY
Search shows the Royer ancestors came to Canada from France in 1656, settled at St. Famille, then St. Jean on the Ile d'Orleans, Quebec, Canada. Augustin's g.g. grandfather, Jean Royer (b.1635 d. ca. 1676) is on the "List Of Founding Families of Ile d'Orleans", 1661. There is a sculpture and two large plaques commemorating the founding families on the grounds at St. Famille Church, 0verlooking the St. Lawrence River. The Royers had to leave their homes and land behind in 1759 when the island was evacuated before the arrival of the British fleet during the Seven Years War. At some time they (Augustin II) made their way to Fort Kaskaskia, Illinois and later (Augustin III) to Louisiana, arriving ca. 1794. Believed to be one of the first Royers in Louisiana, Augustin lived in the St. Martinville area, settled at Carencro. He farmed and primarily raised cattle.
