JoAnn V. Hicks, 77, of Shannondale, Harpers Ferry, died Monday, April 28, 2014, at Jefferson Medical Center, Ranson.
Born June 27, 1936, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Clyde Vernon Hicks and Margaret (Mehalic) Hicks.
Ms. Hicks retired from C&P Telephone Company as a supervising operator. She was a very active member of the St. James Catholic Church, Charles Town and a woman of great faith whose gift and pleasure was to serve others.
JoAnn graduated from Catholic High School and Secretarial School, both in Washington, D.C. She attended Postulate Studies in the Catholic Order. She was a member of the Shannondale Women's Club and the Shannondale Garden Club. She was very active in the Shannondale community. She loved her mountain. JoAnn was also a member of the Women's Minor League Softball Team from D.C., where they won many championships. She is survived by loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at St. James Catholic Church, 49 Crosswinds Drive, Charles Town, WV 25414. Interment will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Harpers Ferry. No visitation. Arrangements are made by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
