Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. Served as Major and assistant surgeon of the 6th Pennsylvania Reserves (35th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry). Awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Bristoe Station, Virginia (October 14, 1863). His citation reads "With one companion returned in the face of the enemy's heavy artillery fire and removed to a place of safety a severely wounded soldier who had been left behind as the regiment fell back". The Medal was issued on May 13, 1899.
