O.B. Boykin, 79, died after an extended illness Sept. 8, 2002, at his daughter's home in Merritt Island, Fla. He was born Aug. 28, 1923, the son of the late Luther Ennis and Julie Cooper Boykin of Kenly. He lived in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach for 40 years after World War II. He retired from Ford Motor Company Assembly Plant in Norfolk where he was employed in a supervisory position in the stock status division. He lived in Lake City, Fla., for the past nine years prior to his illness and was a member of Lake City Baptist Temple and the American Legion.

He is survived by his children, Phyllis Boykin Banks of Darlington, S.C., Kaye Boykin Taylor of Knoxville, Tenn., Jennifer Boykin Vemick of Brunswick, Maine, Teresa Boykin Ansley of Merritt Island, Fla., and Timothy Wilson Boykin of Winchester, Va.; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, in Mount Zion Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, in Coley Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to the Christian Appalachian Project or to your local hospice.
