Mike was born on September 17, 1951 in Iredell County. He was a son of Mary Inez Nichols Kepley of Salisbury and Obe Bob Gordon of Kannapolis and was raised in Kannapolis. He graduated from A.L. Brown High School and received his BA degree from UNC Charlotte in 1973. He worked with NC Department of Revenue in Raleigh as a tax auditor for 29 years and retired in 2002.
Mike was a kind man and friend to all he met. He always tried to help others and offer advice and share his knowledge of taxes and finances. He was accepting and humble about his disabilities while always courageous in battling the obstacles he faced in everyday life. He was the bravest man in our lives.
Mike was a dedicated, loving and always thoughtful husband, father, son, and friend. He loved his dog Roxie, Garner Football, Duke Basketball, fishing, traveling across the country, and spending time with those he loved. Words cannot describe the heartache we all feel with his passing, but we hope we can honor his memory and wonderful spirit by loving each other and by performing acts of kindness and consideration to others.
Mike is preceded in death by a brother, Danny Reid Gordon, who died in September 1948.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Pamela Austin Gordon; daughter, Sarah Gordon Capps and husband Travis Ryan Capps of Garner; his best friend, Jim Boykin of Raleigh; and his beloved dog, Roxie.
A service is scheduled for 2:30 pm Friday, May 2, 2014, at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:15 pm Friday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Special thanks to Heartland Hospice of Clayton, NC and to the doctors who have been involved with his care.
