Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Friday, November 17, 1967, page 3:
  Clifford W. Widener, 74, of Michigan Avenue, Edwardsville, died Thursday afternoon at St. Joseph's Hospital, Alton.
  A retired Olin Mathieson employee, he had lived in Edwardsville about 25 years and had formerly resided in Bremen, Ohio. His parents were Samuel and Ella Jane Work Widener.
  He was married to Florence Sanderson, who survives, on Dec. 1, 1923 at Bremen.
  Also surviving are two sons, Tech. Sgt. James C. Widener [1929-1998], stationed at Essex, England, and John H. Widener [1934-1991], Lancaster, Ohio; six daughters, Mrs. Leslie (Mary Jane) Beck [1925-1992], Riverside, Calif., Ellen Widener [1927-2009], Edwardsville, Mrs. Martin (Eleanor) Steele [1927-1994 twin of Ellen], Belleville, Mrs. Jack (Norma) Hale [1930-1992], East Alton, Mrs. Fred (Florence) Whitaker, Summerfield, and Mrs. Edwin (Nancy) Hellmann, Hamel; 21 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. One brother and one sister are deceased.
  He was a member of Immanuel Methodist Church and World War I Barracks 977 of Edwardsville; AF & AM Lodge 608 at Bremen, and a life member of the Westerner Club and a member of the Mechanics Union at East Alton.
  Friends may call at the Pletcher Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Friday until 2 p.m. Saturday when services will be held. The Rev. Lloyd Bollinger, pastor of Immanuel Church, will officiate.
  Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
  Members of Barracks 977 are requested to meet in a group at 7:30 o'clock tonight at the funeral home.
  The family has requested no flowers and suggests contributions to the Edwardsville Shut-In Club be made.
