US Congressman. Born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia, in 1841. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1844 and was Deputy Attorney General of Montgomery County. During the Civil War, he served in the Union Army as Captain of Company H, 41st Pennsylvania Emergency Troops. In 1865, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-ninth and Fortieth Congresses, serving until 1869. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was appointed Judge of the Montgomery County Court and served until his death at age 64 in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
