Katherine Irene Williamson Dean, 89, of Franklin, Ga., died Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at Hospice LaGrange.

The funeral will be Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. EST in the Stutts Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin with the Rev. Lynn Janney officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin City Cemetery.

Mrs. Dean was born in Randolph County, Ala., on Aug. 11, 1925, the daughter of the late Tampie Brown Williamson and Willie E. Williamson. She was retired from Heard County Department of Family and Children Services, where she was a social worker. The lives of countless families, especially little children, were made better due to her tireless effort on their behalf. Her compassion did not end with her retirement. She cared for her husband and his brother for many years and did so with a sweet and gentle spirit. She was a Christian by faith. "Mrs. Irene" was a fun-loving person whose vivacious personality could lighten your darkest hour. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed making special meals for her family. She loved traveling to the mountains and would pick up at a moment's notice to have a chance to view the beautiful vistas that the mountain ranges offered. Perhaps her favorite thing in life, other than her family, was dancing. Whether she was dancing herself or just a spectator, she loved it. To look at her wardrobe, one would never guess that she was almost 90 years old. She loved dressing nice and had a passion for bright colored shoes and pretty jewelry.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Norma Jean and Charlie Jennings of Bremen, Ga.; two sons, Jackie Cannon of Glenn, Ga., and Toney and wife Lisa Cannon of Franklin; one sister, Roxie Allen of Franklin; one brother, Hubert Williamson of LaGrange; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, J.C. Dean.

The family will receive guests at the funeral home Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. EST.
