Irene E. Hale (Briggs) passed away on February 8, 2014, at age 98.

Life:
She was born August 6, 1915, in Toledo, OH.
She lived in West Toledo in the home of her dreams, before moving to Kingston Residence of Sylvania in 2007.
While living at Kingston, she was an avid card and bingo player, loved to dance and participated in all activities, including dressing up as a clown for many different events. She never went a day without wearing her "Volunteer Activities" badge. She was a very sweet lady, with blue eyes that sparkled and an extraordinary smile that brightened the entire room. She made people laugh with her cute, feisty personality and most of the time couldn't stop laughing herself. Her hobby was making beaded necklaces. Many Kingston residents wear her brightly colored beaded necklaces for which she was affectionately known as the "Bead Lady."
Irene was proud of her four children and always enjoyed their time together. She was also proud to have worked at Tiedtke's and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 29 years.
In her earlier years, Irene spent her time dancing, playing softball (her team was the city league champions) and she bowled in several leagues. She enjoyed traveling, having visited Germany, Austria and Italy. She traveled to many places in the U.S. in her R/V. She enjoyed Detroit Tiger and Toledo Mud Hens baseball. Horse-racing and casinos were a source of entertainment.
She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #199 for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge #184, O-Ton-Ta-La Grotto, Reformation Lutheran Church and NARFE federal employee union.

Family:
Irene was preceded in death by parents, John and Elizabeth Jozsa;
husbands, Herschel Briggs and Ralph Hale;
brother, John Jozsa, and
grandson, John Terrell Jr.
She is survived by children, Beverly (Tom) Olah, Herschel "Butch" (Peggy) Briggs, Sandra (Terry) Rahm, and Sharon (David) Prueter; sister, Martha Finch;
grandchildren, Tracee, Jimmy (Renee), Eric, Cindy, Steve, Michael, Karen (Matthew), Brian (Wendy), Jean, Julie, Rodney (Sarah), LeAnn, and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Foth-Dorfmeyer Mortuary, 3815 Sylvania Ave. (Between Monroe St. & Talmadge Rd.)
Interment to follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
Contributions can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the Kingston Residence of Sylvania staff fund.
