Because his headstone states "Lost at sea WWII", a place of death has not been included even though most family genealogists are using Citrus, Florida.
Prior to his military service, he was an outstanding student both through his high school years in Sumter and his college years at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC.
After earning his Law Degree, he became an attorney in Sumter where he and his wife were members of First Presbyterian Church. In 1951 when the beautiful, historic place of worship was undergoing renovations, Mary Margaret Bland Clarke, his widow, and his parents presented in his memory a beautiful stained glass window called "Christ in Gethsemane."
