Joseph Oscar Harvey died at his home in Sidney, Illinois after a long time of illnesses due to complications of several diseases. He was a Veteran of the Civil War serving with the Union soldiers. He had been a survivor of Libby and Belle Island prisons during his service in the war and took part in eleven battles. He was a bachelor and lived with his two sisters. He had been a resident of Sidney since 1862. Survivors include his two sisters, Misses Mary and Sarah Harvey; and two brothers, John E. and Wilbur F. Harvey. Burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
