Lewie loved life. Especially his family and his loyal canine companions, football at St. John's University and the many friends with whom he conversed, smiled and laughed. He found great pleasure in joining friends for drinks and dinner at Fisher's Club and delighted in daily cribbage contests where he might win a few bucks and talk politics. He thoroughly enjoyed gardening, cooking, picking grapes for wine-making and fishing with his buddies in Florida. Lewie was a people person who thrived on listening to, as well as telling a good story. In later years he drove his scooter or golf cart to wherever the action was, with his dog Buddy fast by his side.
