Arthur served as a Staff Sergeant & Right Waist Gunner on B-24J #44-40163, 856th Bomber Squadron, 492nd Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 19, 1942 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted as being employed as a dyer and also as Single, without dependents.

He was married after his enlistment.

B-24J #44-40163 took off from North Pickenham, England on a bombing mission over Politz, Germany on June 20, 1944. They were attacked & shot down by German Aircraft and crashed on the Isle of Ruegen, Germany on June 20, 1944 during the war. Some parachutes were seen leaving the B-24 before it crashed.

Arthur became a POW of the German Army and later "Died Of Wounds" received in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
