Norman R. Ryder, age 72 of Amberson, PA, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. Born at home in Amberson on December 17, 1940, he was the son of the late Norman C. and Madelyn Daugherty Ryder.

Norman was a 1958 graduate of the Shippensburg High School. Norman farmed for a number of years, prior to pursuing at career at Letterkenny Army Depot for 27 years, where he retired in September 1993. Norman turned his hobby of photography into a business, where he was the owner and operator of Ryder’s Aerial Photography. Mechanically inclined, Norman built his own plane, among other things and enjoyed flying, working on cars, and spending time with family.

Surviving is his wife, Bonita “Bonnie” L. Ryder; six children, Cindy L. Ryder of Shippensburg, PA, Natalie J. Ryder (Jay Shauf) of Fayetteville, PA; Christine M. Godsill (husband Joseph) of Clermont, FL; Clinton B. Ryder (wife Leah) of Amberson, PA; Loreena C. Heinle (husband Brandon) of Shippensburg, PA; Sarah E. Ryder of Winter Garden, FL; twelve grandchildren, Carrie, Stacy, Jordyn, Daniel, Heather, Jennifer, Gayle, Olivia H., Lucian, Olivia, Madilyn, and Savanna; four siblings, Julia Ile (husband John) of Shippensburg, PA, Terry Ryder of Amberson, PA, Virginia Thomas (husband John) of Silverdale, WA, Susan Shatzer (husband Joseph) of Orrstown, PA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Carl W. Ryder in 2006.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 1PM in Amberson Union Cemetery, Amberson, PA; where Rev. Dr. Meagan Boozer will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Rd., Chambersburg, PA or to the Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 128, Spring Run, PA 17262. Arrangements are entrusted to the Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, Dry Run, PA.
