"Page Pioneer" Abe Begay worked for USBR (Bureau of Reclamation) as an Interpreter and Blue Print Operator during the construction of Glen Canyon Dam & Bridge, helping to birth "America's Last Frontier" -- Page, Arizona.

Abe Bahe Begay, 100, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, at his daughter's home in Flagstaff. He was born Nov. 24, 1905, in Tohatchi, NM to Asezaa Todacheeni and Hostee Bitaanii. He married Doris Nakai, and they had five children. They were later divorced. In 1948, he married Rebecca Denetsosie, daughter of Lena & Harvey Butler. She died Sept. 27, 2003.

They had ten children together:

They lived in the USBR Trailer Park in Kanab, Utah, where most of their children were born, until moving into one of the famous pink transit houses in Page next to the airstrip.

Mr. Begay was a hard-working man who always did his best to care and provide for his family. He worked for the federal government in several agencies for many years, including work as a blueprint operator during the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam. He had lived in several towns around the area, including Kanab, Utah, and Page, Gap area, and Flagstaff.

He is survived by children Raymond, Richard, Arlene, Alberta, Louis, Leonard, Ameretta , Abel , Albert, Bernda, and Verda Kay; 21 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by all eight of his brothers and sisters, his wife Becky Begay, son Abe Bahe Begay Jr., and granddaughter Teiarria.
