Notes for ELIZABETH MOORE:

Elizabeth "Betsy" Moore was called Big Betsy.
Some claim she was never married, but that she had four children out of wedlock, two by shadrack stanley (a neighbor, probably related to Mary Stanley, wife of her brother James Wesley Moore ), latter listed by the courts as a "lunatic".
The other two children were by Jacob Estep ( her brother-in-law, husband of her sister Nancy Moore ).
Big Betsy may have lived on Jacob's land; listed as "widow" on the 1880 census.
It was said she was the only Moore of her generation who could read or write

By: Len Moore
She is listed as living by herself in the 1850 census of Wilkes County NC.

Family lore suggests that Shadrack Stanley is the father of Elizabeth Moore's children.
No evidence has been uncovered that substaniates this theory.
One bastardy bond in Wilkes Co., NC was found which pertains to Mary (Puggy) Moore and it states that the father of Mary is Pleasant Becknell - 5th Nov, 1822.)

Wilkes County Heritage Book Vol. I, pg. 355 - "she was not married but had four illegitimate children; the first two by Shadrack Stanley and the next two by Jacob Estep, her brother-in-law."

Died and was buried in Old Anderson Cemetery in Wilkes Cty NC.
May be no marker.
