John Eakin was born in Ireland and married Jane Rodgers. Many of their children had immigrated a few year prior to Bedford County, TN, so they immigrated to Tennessee, as well, in 1822.

John died within three years, aged 63.

He is buried in the older annex of Cowan Cemetery in an altar tomb. His wife, Jane, is buried to his right, and son, Spencer, who died suddenly while visiting his widowed Mother's home in 1840, is to Jane's right.

NOTE: John's tomb was badly damaged some 30 years ago. The top of the tomb was broken in 10 pieces. The left side length and end side piece were both broken in two and the column was thrown down. All these pieces were stacked on top of each other. In April of 2014, the altar tomb was carefully and securely pieced back together. The top of the tomb, while safely on the tomb, would require repair to restore it to one piece (one corner of top is missing and could not be located).
