Mr. Justin Sean McCarthy Sr., 48, of East Northampton Street, Heights section of Wilkes-Barre, fell asleep in the Lord Holy Thursday morning in the coronary care unit of the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following a two year valiant battle with cancer.

Born October 14, 1965 in Laurel, Prince Georges County, Maryland, he was the third of four sons to Mrs. Patricia (Kessler) McCarthy of the Heights section of the city and former city councilman, the late James J.F. McCarthy, who passed on January 8th, 2013. After the family's relocation to the Wyoming
Valley, settling in Wilkes-Barre's Heights section, Justin was educated in the
city schools, and was a member of the 1984 graduating class of the Grand Army
of the Republic Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre. He furthered his education by attaining an Associate Degree in Business from the Luzerne County Community College, Nanticoke. He attended Saint John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Georgetown section of Wilkes-Barre Township.

For the past thirty years, Justin was employed by and associated with his family's business as the manager of Jim McCarthy's Tavern on the Hill, East Northampton and Sherman Streets, Wilkes-Barre. Having a love of music, he was a notable figure in their endeavors by establishing the well-received "Open Mic Night" and "Get Up and Dance with DJ Justin" on the weekends. His late father also shared his enthusiasm by having "Oldies Karaoke with Gentleman Jim".

Justin's passion for hospitality did not end there. He was quite civic-minded, and cared about his community, especially where children were involved. He remained active for several years, and was a committeeman with Bowl For Kids Sake. As a member and past president of the Wilkes-Barre Lions Club, he escalated to the rank of past District Governor for District 14-W , (2004- 2005) for the Lions Clubs International, and was instrumental in establishing the Leo
Club at Wilkes-Barre Academy, from where his son, Justin Jr. is a graduate.

Active in his children's affairs, he had coached various sporting teams during their youth. He also was a former member of the Wilkes-Barre Housing Authority, and represented Wilkes-Barre City at several conventions across the country during his tenure. Following his father's passion for politics, he made two bids for Wilkes-Barre City Council .

Justin is remembered by those who knew and loved him best for his uncanny knack of welcoming all who entered his family's establishment, whether he knew them for years, or just had the privilege of meeting them. Everyone he served was treated with warmth and respect. He was the consummate host, especially when he held the cordless microphone.

In his spare time, prior to his illness, he assisted his family's friends as a funeral assistant withthe John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc. of Wilkes-Barre for twenty years, and was looked upon as a member of their own family.

Justin touched many lives in the short time our Heavenly Father shared him with us. Each certainly has their own special memories to cherish in this life.

In addition to his mother Patti at home, Justin leaves his beloved wife of twenty-two years, the former Josephine A. (Josie) Bielecki, at home; son, Justin Jr., a second-year student at the Pennsylvania State University, State College; Daughter Seanna Lynn Grochowski and her husband Larry of Greene, New York; Grandchildren, Christopher, Connor and Harper; Brothers, James of
Nanticoke, Harry and his wife Anna McCarthy and Timothy, all of the Heights
section of the city; Several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins….and many wonderful friends.
