"Captain John Jackson of the Schooner James Averill was knocked off the boat by a swinging boom and drowned last week Wednesday near Chimney Point." John was working for a W.J Brown at the time of the accident, transporting a load of brick.

John's widowed daughter, Mrs. Emma Francis Jackson Lang, lived in Boston at the time of his death.
