Leonard Eugene "Mr. Gene" Pierce, age 87 of Blytheville, Arkansas, passed from this life on Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Heritage Square Nursing Center in Blytheville.

Born to Lovid E. and Geneva Bailey Pierce, in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was the former owner/operator of Mr. Genes Family Hair Center and a member of the 10th Street Baptist Church. As a U.S. Navy, WWII veteran during the pacific campaign he proudly served his country. Gene was an individual who as a Barber recognized the trend toward different styles of haircuts. He decided to change his barbershop to a family hair center and hired a beautician to offer more to his customers than the traditional haircuts. Gene also was an avid gardener. He and his wife Freddie would spend hours and their yard was a true showplace, especially this time of year. Gene's love for Freddie was a love of devotion and dedication. When Freddie became ill several years ago his love for her was evident in the tenderness and care he devoted to her. His faith in God was strong and he was an active member in church. As a dedicated Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years he did his best to show by example that which he taught and believed in.

Gene is survived by the love of his life, Freddie Lou Garner Pierce; brother, Charles Gordon Pierce and his wife Dorothy of Haleyville, Alabama; two nieces, Cindy Barringer and Teresa Hill, two nephews, Paul Garner and Marc Garner both of Mississippi and his Goddaughter and caregiver, Harriett Jumper and her husband, Randy and the family of North Tenth Street Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.
