Jonas Johnson, a resident of Salt Lake county since 1869, died March 9 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. B. Smith, in Brinton.

Mr. Johnson was born July 30, 1835, in Sweden. He moved to Norway at the age of 16 and joined the Church in 1863.
Death was due to infirmities incident to old age.

His home for many years was in the Big Cottonwood, where he was prominent in civic and church affairs. He was at one time active as a school trustee and was all his life a successful agriculturist. By profession he was a carpenter. He filled a mission in Norway in 1896-98 and at the time of his death was a patriarch, the head of a large and respected family and esteemed by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.

Surviving are the following children; Joseph Johnson of Holladay, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. R. Stockham of Lorenzo, Ida., Hyrum Johnson, Orson Johnson and Heber Johnson of Midvale; 26 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Interment in the Murray City cemetery.
