Baylis Maurice West, age 76, formerly of the Sikeston area, died Friday, September 24, 2021, at his home in Defiance, MO.
He was born September 28, 1944 at Portageville, MO, to the late Elmer and Ola West. He moved to the St. Louis area in 1956 and joined the Navy from 1962-1964. Baylis was stationed on the USS Amphion AR-13 based out of Norfolk, Virginia. He worked as an electrician at General Motors from 1964 to 1998 and retired after 34 years. Baylis enjoyed coin collecting and genealogy.
On March 31, 1982, he married Eveleen "Evie" Swedholm Goewert, who preceded him in death on August 1, 2021.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Camille.
Surviving are his children, Karen Goewert of St. Claire, MO; Marla (Rich) Wolfmeier of Cedar Hill, MO; Jeff (September) West of Midlothian, TX; Steven (Rhonda) West of Defiance, MO; Kurt (Joanne) Goewert of Neosho, MO; Karl Goewert of Springfield, MO, and Keith (Michelle) Goewert of St. Claire, MO; 21 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m., at McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston.
Interment will follow in the Sikeston City Cemetery in Sikeston, under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home of Sikeston.
Pallbearers will be: Joseph West, Jonathan West, Alex Goewert, Brandon Goewert, Zack Goewert and Arthur Ashcraft.
