Groton: Services for Inez Knickrehm, 99, of Groton will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Groton [SD]. Pastor Elizabeth Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow at Groton Union Cemetery, under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel in Groton.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Inez passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Rosewood Court in Groton.
Inez Jane was born March 2, 1915, near Warner to Max Edward and Eva (Carter) Dunker. She attended Rondell School and graduated from Groton High School in 1932.
Inez received her teaching certificate from Northern [State College, Aberdeen, SD] and taught in Randolph [SD] for three years.
On June 1, 1937, she united in marriage with Robert Knickrehm. They made their home on the Knickrehm farm in Garden Prairie Township for 46 years before retiring to Groton in 1983. Robert passed away in 2001 and Inez moved to Rosewood Court in July 2012.
Inez was a member of the Help One Another Extension Club, Good Cheer Club, International Order of the King's Daughters and Sons, OES Bethel Chapter No. 102 and Diana Chapter No. 83, Daughters of the Nile and a member of the Groton Presbyterian Church, where she was ordained as elder and a deacon. In earlier years, she was chosen Honored Homemaker and South Dakota Mother of the Year. She was a 4-H leader for many years and served as chairman of the Brown County Extension Homemakers. Inez was also Worthy Matron and Grand Chaplain of South Dakota OES and a member of the Aberdeen Toastmistress Club. Together, she and Robert traveled extensively. She enjoyed reading, sewing, handwork, crossword puzzles, making Happy books and playing bridge.
Celebrating her life are her daughters: Ann (Robert) Winegar of Excelsior, Minn., Roberta (David) Olson of Brookings and Carol (Gerald) Osterman of Groton; six grandchildren: Kathi (Bob) Tunheim, Kristi (Don) Wieser, Aaron (Katie) Monagle-Olson, Daniel (Cathryn) Olson, Todd (Sandra) Osterman and Robert (Angela) Osterman; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Carol Dunker of Aberdeen and Betty Dunker of Groton; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 64 years; three brothers: Raymond, Wallace and Dale Dunker; three sisters: Hazel Sager, Evelyn Clausen and Mildred Williams; a great-grandson; and two granddaughters.
Casketbearers will be Todd Osterman, Bob Osterman, Aaron Olson, Jason Osterman, Bob Tunheim and Don Wieser.
