YANCEY, ELIZABETH MAY, 56, of Newburgh, formerly of Louisville, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center.

Liz was a graduate of Seneca High School and Spencerian Business School and a former member of Highland Presbyterian Church in Louisville. Liz continuously worked to advocate for others. In Louisville, she worked as a nurse's technician at Hazelwood Hospital for the developmentally disabled and served as a member of the TARC board, where she worked to acquire more handicap-accessible bus routes. Liz was a medalist in both the Special Olympics and Senior Olympics. Most recently, she lived at Newburgh Healthcare where she was a mail carrier, bingo caller and resident journalist. She was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Reesie Yancey. Liz is survived by her brother, John "Dick" Yancey and his wife, Cynthia; her sister, Barb Ferguson; niece, Paula Viner and her husband, Brandon; niece, Shannon Pritchett and her husband, Walter; nephew, Scooter Yancey and his wife, Mary; nephew, Yancey Ferguson; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. CDT Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Dennis Davenport. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. CDT Friday, April 29, 2005, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, Newburgh. Memorial contributions may be made to Newburgh Healthcare Recreation Fund or Bosse High School's Sustained Silent Reading Fund.
