Kenneth Leroy Philo, the son of Austin and Mary (VanDusen) Philo, was born on December 8, 1905, in Schenectady, New York. In 1924, he received his diploma from Schenectady High School. Kenneth learned to fly at the Schenectady Airport while working at the Schenectady Gazette. He also worked for the Schenectady Union Star and Troy Record Newspaper.

In September of 1942, Kenneth enlisted in the United States Army Corps. When Kenneth took off on a regular night flight while in training at the Utica Airport, his plane crashed about a mile away, killing him.
