Anthony Francese died on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, N.J., surrounded by his children. He was 87 years old Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset, N.J. A 10 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at Our Lady of Mercy Church, South Bound Brook, N.J. Subsequent interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway, N.J. Friends and family may call from 3 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Francese was born and raised in the Silver Lake section of Belleville, N.J., and lived in Newark, N.J., and Edison, N.J., before moving to Somerset 27 years ago. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Church in South Bound Brook. He served our country faithfully during World War II as a staff sergeant in the United States Army. He retired as a union laborer in 1981. He also owned and operated flower shops in his younger years. Mr. Francese enjoyed playing golf and was a devout fan of the New York Rangers, New York Giants and New York Yankees, but he found no greater joy than spending time together with his family and sharing stories of his youth in Silver Lake. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Rosina, in 2011, after nearly 62 wonderful years of marriage. He was also pre deceased by his sister, Ruby Marra. Mr. Francese is survived by his children, Elizabeth Murray and her husband, Dr. Thomas Murray, of Mendham, N.J., Mark Francese and his wife, Ani, of Brick, N.J., David Francese and his wife, Joanna, also of Brick, and Adrienne Reilly and her husband, Michael, of Buckingham, Pa. He is also survived by a brother, Sam Francese and his wife, Ceil, of California, and 12 grandchildren, Chris Baggetta and her husband, Tristan, Rachel and Carolyn Murray, Elizabeth, Anthony, and Thomas Francese, Kaitlyn, Kevin, and Alyssa Francese and Tricia, Danny, and Christopher Reilly.
