Joseph Travis Givens, Jr., affectionately known as "Joe", of the Sniders Community in Ruffin, entered into rest on the evening of March 28, 2014.

Born April 11, 1944, a native of Colleton County, he was a son of the late Joseph Travis Givens, Sr. and the late Lelia Lourine Martin Givens.

Joe served in the South Carolina National Guard. During his life, he has been known for his strong work ethic, having been a carpenter, logger, and very talented mechanic. He also loved farming and seeing the harvest of his work and raising chickens. He was a founding member of the Church Upon the Rock.

Surviving are: his wife of forty-two years, Susan Bailey Givens; two sons, Joseph Travis Givens, III and wife Denise of Islandton and Matthew Givens of Ruffin; daughter, Sylvia Givens Drawdy of Ruffin; and sister, Lelia Mae Givens Smoak of Ruffin and her two children, Donald Smoak and wife Sherri and Kathy Little and husband Mike. There are seven grandchildren, Savannah, Noah, Susannah, Jonah, Christina, Micah, and Ezrah.

He was preceded in death by a niece, Sandy Smoak Bunn.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 o'clock, April 1, 2014, from Church Upon the Rock, 2483 Miracle Road, Ruffin. Interment will follow in the Givens Cemetery in Ruffin.

The family will receive friends following the funeral service at Church Upon the Rock.
