Born in Donaghadee, County Down, Ireland to John Pink and Mary Ann Drake. He was the 5th of 12 children. He came to the U.S. in 1862 and married Ellen Elizabeth Lavelle. They divorced in 1886 and she moved back to Chicago. He married Martha Patterson in 1894.
