  Former Edwardsville Assistant Director of Public Works Herbert Leuschke, 68, died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Oliver C. Anderson Hospital.
  He reportedly suffered a heart attack.
  Mr. Leuschke worked with the city's water system for 43 years. He began work in 1932 with the Public Water Co., the independently owned water company in Edwardsville. He worked for the water company until May of 1957, when the city of Edwardsville purchased the water system.
  Mr. Leuschke then went to work for the city as water superintendent and was promoted to assistant director of public works--the position he held when he retired in Nov. 21, 1975.
  After he retired, Mr. Leuschke was appointed by Mayor Clyde L. Hartung to serve as director of the Edwardsville Emergency Service Agency...
  ...Mr. Leuschke was born on Nov. 26, 1908, in Edwardsville, a son of Mrs. Agnes Leuschke of Edwardsville and the late Robert Leuschke.
  He was married to Viola Zoeller on Oct. 30, 1931, in Edwardsville. His wife survives.
  Also surviving are a brother Ralph Leuschke of Edwardsville and a sister Mrs. Ruth Eads of Edwardsville.
  Mr. Leuschke was a member of the Moose Lodge in Edwardsville.
  Friends may call after 5 p.m. Friday in the Pletcher Funeral Home in Edwardsville.
  Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Pletcher Funeral Home with the Rev. Lawrence Meincen, pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Prairietown, officiating.
  Burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Roy Wehrle, Larry Sidener, Ray Hessel, Udell Henschen, Clyde Hartung and Jim Vanzo.
